The first prototype vehicle for the Ethiopian public transportation "gasification from oil" demonstration project, implemented by a Chinese professional team, has recently been fully modified in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia. It has achieved gas filling, ignition and road testing, marking a transition from blueprint planning to reality in Ethiopia's public transportation energy transformation.
Ethiopia heavily relies on imports for its petroleum products and spends a large amount of foreign currency each year to purchase oil. In response to this situation, the Ethiopian government has designated the "oil-to-gas" transformation of public transportation as a national-level key project for improving people's livelihood and energy transition. The aim is to solve problems such as reliance on imported fuel, high operating costs of public transportation, and an unreasonable energy structure, and to steadily promote the low-carbon transformation of Ethiopia's national economy and society.
It is reported that this project is led by Chinese enterprise Xian Group. The technical team spent three months conducting in-depth research and analysis on the parameters and operational conditions of local buses. The technical plan was ultimately approved by the Ethiopian authorities and a cooperation agreement was signed with two major state-owned bus companies in the country, clearing obstacles for large-scale promotion.
The project leader explained that within 20 days after the prototype vehicle was launched, this project will fully enter the stage of mass modification. The project will set up 5 specialized modification workstations, and complete the modification of 10 buses per day. This will ensure that all 2,000 buses in Addis Ababa are "oil-to-gas" converted within 8 months, helping Ethiopia's public transportation transition into the "fast lane" and promoting sustainable development of its public transportation system.
